Paying bills is almost an art in the Chinese culture.
It is sometimes like a little game that we all will expect at the end of a meal. The key is to argue that you will pay but ultimately not paying. If you insist to pay it till the end, it may be seen as being rude and implying that your host is unable to afford to pay.
Therefore, only "argue" a few times, 3 times at most and then give in to the host. What about not arguing at all? It means that you feel that the host owes you that meal. See, this is why it is an art.
After the host paid, thank them a few times as a form of appreciation. On a side note, tipping is not a must as service charges are usually added to the bill.
